At Recorly, your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have over your data. We aim to be transparent and use plain language — no legal jargon.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, use our services, or contact us for support.

Account Information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password. If you subscribe to a paid plan, we collect billing information (processed securely by Stripe — we never store card numbers).

Usage Data: We automatically collect information about how you use Recorly, including recordings created, videos watched, share links accessed, and feature interactions.

Device & Technical Data: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and other standard web log data.

Video Content: When you record or upload videos, that content is stored on our servers. We do not analyze or use your video content for any purpose other than providing the service.

Communications: If you contact us, we retain those communications to help with future support requests.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services • Process transactions and send related information (receipts, invoices) • Send technical notices, updates, security alerts, and administrative messages • Respond to your comments, questions, and customer service requests • Send marketing communications (you can opt out at any time) • Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with our services • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities • Personalize your experience and deliver content and features relevant to your interests • Comply with legal obligations

3. Sharing of Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

Service Providers: We share information with vendors and service providers who perform services on our behalf, including payment processing (Stripe), cloud storage (Supabase/AWS), email delivery (Resend), and analytics.

Business Transfers: If Recorly is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or a prominent notice on our website.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.

Protection of Rights: We may disclose information where we believe it's necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, or situations involving potential threats to safety.

With Your Consent: We may share information with third parties when you give us explicit consent to do so.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to track activity on our service and hold certain information.

Essential Cookies: Required for the website to function. These cannot be disabled.

Analytics Cookies: Help us understand how visitors interact with our website (e.g., which pages are visited most). We use privacy-respecting analytics.

Preference Cookies: Remember your settings and preferences (e.g., dark/light mode, language).

Marketing Cookies: Used to deliver relevant advertisements. We do not currently run ad campaigns, but this may change.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some portions of the service may not function properly without cookies.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, fraud-prevention, or financial reasons.

Video recordings you delete are removed from our servers within 7 days. During that period, they may remain in backup storage but are not accessible to other users.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

These measures include: • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/HTTPS) and at rest • Access controls limiting who can access your data internally • Regular security reviews and penetration testing • Secure payment processing through PCI-DSS compliant providers

No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.

Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.

Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information (subject to certain exceptions).

Portability: Request a machine-readable copy of your personal data.

Opt-Out of Marketing: Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email we send.

Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time.

8. Children's Privacy

Recorly is not directed to children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@recorly.com. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 16 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information.

9. International Data Transfers

Recorly is operated in the United States. If you are located outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

By using our services, you consent to the transfer of information to the United States. We implement appropriate safeguards (including Standard Contractual Clauses where required) to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.

For significant changes, we will also send you an email notification (if we have your email address) at least 14 days before the change takes effect.

Your continued use of Recorly after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.
